Handlepacks

A handle pack bundles everything one door needs into a single order, normally a pair of levers or knobs, a tubular latch and a set of hinges, all in the same finish. Buying the pack instead of the parts removes the two most common ordering mistakes: a latch backset that does not suit the handle rose, and hinges in a finish that does not match.

Which pack for which door

Standard rooms take a latch pack. Bathrooms and en-suites need a privacy version with a turn and release, so see bathroom door handle sets and bathroom locks. Bedrooms with a key requirement take bedroom lock sets.

Fire rated openings must not be fitted with a general pack: use fire rated hinges and intumescent strips approved for the leaf. Individual components are listed in door handles, door hinges and locks and latches.

What is in a handlepack

A handlepack is one line on an order that covers one door. Instead of buying a handle, then a latch, then hinges, and then discovering the bathroom needs a turn and release as well, the pack brings the parts together in a single matching finish. That is why it is the fastest way to hardware a whole house: one pack per door, and every landing matches.

Which pack for which room

A handle set is the pair of handles only. A handle pack adds the latch and the hinges, which is what a normal internal door needs. A bathroom pack adds the turn and release so the door can be locked from inside and released from outside in an emergency. A bedroom pack adds a key lock instead. Choose on the room, not on price: bathrooms and WCs need the privacy function, and everything else usually only needs a latch.

Do handlepacks work on fire doors?

The handle and latch usually do, but the hinges must be rated. On any fire door use fire rated hinges and intumescent strips and pads rather than the standard hinges in a pack.

How many hinges come in a pack?
